Trarsani Font

By Duane

When I started writing tutorial pages on the Trarsani languages, my first plan was just to draw the alphabet with Corel Photopaint.  This was a bad idea.  It turned out to be a horrible amount of work and the results were less than polished.  So I made a TrueType font.  It's not fancy, but it gets the job done.  The Trarsani aren't the kind of people to worry much about fancy fonts, anyway.

Here is the character map.

Trarsani AlphabetThe mapping is mostly phonetic, with some approximations, such as j mapping to the zh sound, c to the sh sound, and x to the th sound (because they look the same).  The Trarsani language doesn't use punctuation, with the exception of a "hyphen", which maps into a dot, so I've usurped some of those characters for the diphthongs.  The period doesn't look like it maps to anything, but there is actually a long space there, which is how Trarsani separates sentences.

It's worth noting that to the casual observer, the lower-case and upper-case a and y seem to give the same character.  Not quite.  The upper-case "a" is shifted to the left slightly, and the upper-case "y" to the right.  This is so that they can be positioned properly in the ai (ay) diphthong.  To enter it, just hold down <SHIFT> and type ay.

I'll refer you back to the tutorial page Introduction to Trarsani 1: Alphabet and Writing for details on how to use all these characters, because this is a download page and not a school.

Enjoy!
